Ferrosilicon (FeSi) is an iron-silicon alloy widely used in steelmaking for deoxidation and alloying. It enhances the strength, durability, and performance of steel. The most common grade, FeSi70, contains 70% silicon, but silicon content can range from 15% to 90%, depending on the application.
Ferrosilicon is produced in Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF) by reducing silica (SiO₂) with coke in the presence of iron, usually sourced from steel scrap or iron ore. It is typically available in metallic grey lumps or briquettes.
